The Anbernic RG35-XXSP Review.

This Replaced my Doom Scroll.

Time For another thing to replace one of my phones functions. one that is far out done by this handheld emulator.

Mobile Gaming Really sucks I don't care how much bluetooth controllers and Retroid you add to a phone it's still a phone. one distraction or one notification and your session is over. at least for me. as someone with adhd having the distraction brick around you in any capacity is a risk. especially Doom scrolling.

So after my H2 Music player review the next logical step is the Anbernic RG35-XXSP. a linux based open source Game boy BEAST.

I think this form factor makes the most since considering all of the time you'd be carrying a phone AND you handheld. something that's really hard with PSP style Handhelds. I can tell you for sure considering before this my jailbraked psp was just as and even more powerful than this but it is larger and has outdated ports AND storage mediums. (if you don't use an SD card adapter)

It's not all about looks. But it most certainly with this.

I Could really say alot about how well it does this or that but. C'mon. its such a charming design that it is just hard to hate. it's as if you LS swapped a VW beetle. such a cute form factor and alot of power to back it up as a viable handheld. this is a bit larger than a OG Game boy SP but it is still no bigger than the palm of my hand and bout 2 inches thick.

Now it's time to talk about the thing that really shows the price of this. the build and the factory OS. For 80 dollars. the build is all plastic. not to say it's weak but feels sturdy with a healthy feeling weight to it. and the buttons are done very right with a pretty clicky feeling. I know its up to preference but I love how it makes games feel super responsive. and the shoulder buttons are the same way

MuOS

So like I said this is a linux based emulator so naturally. The argument between Distros is constant. I don't care to list others but my choice was MUOS. but other operating systems are available for this system and like i said another thing that made it cheap was the factory OS

And boy is it useless. it's so ugly and useless that I will not even show you.

But MuOS is super fun to fuck around with. Custom Themes and a massive library of game support. and even support for some odd formats like various Audio and Video Codecs, Karaoke , and even the fucking TI-84. and with that Audio Codec i of course but Cameron Winters album onto the player. thus making it an MP3 player.

Games!!!!

Support for consoles are stable up until Psp. And even at that PSP support is very iffy. but PS1 games are very very comfortable on this console which for me is a huge plus. I know other mainstream handhelds like the steam deck can play... anything. also side tangent. Microsoft has a handheld out and uses windows as the OS. you reckon that shit comes with Mcaffee antivirus. sorry I've only known cheap windows my whole life so uninstalling Mcaffee the moment I get a new computer. BUT other than that. I'm mainly doing it for the size. this has a very very good balance of small and comfortable. for my hands at least.

Overall

For beginners in Linux or software modding in general this is a super fun and simple project. I really did luck out with my MUOS flash but I would imagine Troubleshooting would be easy considering support for MUOS is ongoing and very very active. I would majorly reccomend this to people trying to lessen their screen time on their phones. and peoiple also looking to de-centralizing their phone.
