Drawing With Dip Pens (video)

Okay Fountain pens were to fancy for me.

I really really like it. alot more than fountain pens and even more than ballpoint. There I Said It!!!!

I Really like it. like i said in my last blog but this recent drawing with new nibs really changed it for me. since my last dip pen was really sharp and sensitive to digging into paper and skipping these new nibs were really nice to work with and running out of ink was not a massive worry. which you'd think would be the biggest limit when drawing with dip pens. There's actually a nib just for holding a shit ton of ink. It's called the Reservior nib in the set i bought it from and came in clutch when it came to the branch crown on the model since it would be a real pain to keep on redipping and i managed to get that whole crown done in less than 2 dips. and that's not to mention how nice it is to work with India ink.

 I did have some.... er alot of problems with Oil based inks 

. mainly was the sheen. since it was an oil certain lighting made the drawing look weird since it was not matte. it was like having a bad viewing angle on a TV. just alot of the contrast was gone when some of the blacks of the ink were looking really bright from the light reflection. and also the fact of since it never really looks dry you can never tell unless you know for sure that it has been long enough for it to be dry. and blots of oil based inks take ages to dry out. adding minuets onto your drawing time just cause of some little ink dots. I don't hate oil ink. I'm just now preferring india ink. but india ink does require some prep and clean up to use so ballpoints are still winning for me.
